the psychology of minimalism

living in such a house would effect you on a psychological level
you'd either feel pure and unrestrained, or completely alienated
depending on your personality.
i think minimalism reflects the evolution of not only architecture but of thought.
we started out with ancient greek corinthian columns, decorated and intricate,
to the rococo, and determination for the ornamental.
and then gradually, unknowingly, we, humanity, strive for something that is more simple.
gradually buildings adopted flatter planes, simpler geometries.
this change is accompanied by the growing pace in how we live.
so as our lives get more chaotic, and the world grows more complex
our buildings get more simple.
they are showing off how fucked up we really are.
these buildings are an ideal within themselves. these buildings show you how you want to live,
and how you will never be able to live.
this is the evolution of architecture, and it is the path of evolution for everything else

i'm moving houses tomorrow morning. i've been in this house for probably over 7 years now.
it's strange to feel attached to something that is non-living. i will miss this shitty house and its band of memories.
i'm moving closer to the city, which should be good. i think urban environments help boost my creativity.
i like walking through the city and looking at the people who are removed from life, with their faces clearly showing
that something is missing, or something is askew, or something is wrong. i don't know if i get enjoyment out of it
because i find it interesting or because it feels like i have some strange unspoken bond with these people.

what are you thinking?

Ok, I'll behave. :blahblah:
I think living in such a house would be interesting, and I suppose you'd be able to think easily from lack of distraction from pattern and colour. But I'd miss that, I think eventually as you said I'd become alienated. But what an amazing house that would be to live in! :D

That type of architecture is awesome.
i'm thinking of the monolith in 2001 a space odyssey ...

I think that type of houses are great. But I don't know if, for myself, would work. Maybe for a month or something. to rest. But I've thought about make my own room something minimal (since I live with my parents) but I am also very attached to "things"
so it's pretty difficult.

good luck with everything

I dont think I could live in a house with such a small amount of visual input. I really like to observe people, objects, just my environment. I would probably go mental in a few hours haha :D
